“In the summer of 2008, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe worked with Quynn Elizabeth to create a video of the Klallam youth’s experience with the Elwha Science Education Project.
The Elwha Science Education Project is an academic enrichment program teaching earth sciences and Klallam traditional knowledge to Native youth. The project focuses on the ecological restoration of the Elwha River. The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe is a lead partner is both the ecological restoration, and the education of the next generation to take responsibility for caring for the land.
Through working with Quynn Elizabeth, young people in the tribe had the opportunity to learn videographer skills and express themselves through a new medium.
Quynn provided technical guidance before the summer, and prepared the education staff to equip students with camcorders and collect their video. During the Project’s geoscience camp, several students were designated videographers who recorded the experiences of their peers.
Quynn then worked with tribal staff and youth to turn the collection of video into a story. Youth recorded a narrative, written by tribal staff. Quynn edited the content to produce a short video of the youth’s experience.
Quynn Elizabeth generously provided her skills as a videographer, producer, and educator.” Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin Olympic Park Institute

NATIONAL HISTORY PROJECT- FLOWING WELL SCHOOLS
I am a retired teacher in the Flowing Wells School District who continues to work on special projects for the district. One of the student projects I’ve worked with is National History Day. Students in 6th – 12th grades compete at regional, state, and national levels by sharing their research through performances, papers, websites, documentaries, or exhibits. Several students have chosen to create websites and were able to add video clips in their sites. Not having the skills to assist them I found Quynn Elizabeth and her programs for young girls. It seemed like a perfect fit.
I brought two different groups to Quynn’s workshop – one in November and one in December. Both times I went also so that I might pick up a bit of knowledge that I might also help my students. In both sessions I found Quynn to be an excellent instructor. She was patient, caring, a great listener, and made each student feel successful. She let the girls know that if they had further questions or needed a bit more help she would be there for them. She examplified what I have come to know through my many years of teaching as an excellent instructor. Quynn has a special knack of helping without doing; supporting while expecting something back from students; sharing her passion for her work and a willingness to take the time to share with others in a most patient manner.
I look forward to working with Quynn in the future. Mary DeStefano
