“The Medicine of the Wilderness: A Field Guide to Native Skills”
(85 letter size pages, unbound manuscript; includes illustrations)

By Danny August
This little book is unique among primitive skills guides in that the skills it covers are presented in the context of the native spirituality from which they arise.  These pages distill Danny’s extensive experience learning the lessons of the wilderness from the source. It was originally written for a wilderness therapy program for troubled teenagers in the canyonlands of Utah, where the author honed and field tested the many hard and soft native skills in the book during more than 500 days in the field as a wilderness guide.   However, the concepts can be applied by anyone anywhere.

The
ones who came before taught that the earth itself is a living being, a magical being who can impart to those who live impeccably knowledge and power. Only through action, they say, can one tap into this power.  One realizes one’s connection with everything by interacting with the natural world, not by viewing images on a screen or by looking at displays behind glass cases… To really know a plant or animal...one must know it with the heart…This requires enacting ancient rituals like making a fire from scratch; reading the weather from tracks in the sky; expressing gratitude for life through song and dance and gift….(from the introduction)60+ pages (unbound manuscript—equivalent to 70 book pages)
Price: $16.00 + $2.50 shipping

CONTRIBUTORS:
Danny August is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, writer and visual artist. He channels in his work energy as it flows in the universe based on teachings he received from humans and non-humans during his lengthy time spent in the wilderness, especially in the Sonoran Desert, which he now calls homeHis sonic compositions can be heard in the soundtracks of Jonathan Van Ballenberghe’s Sundance Film Festival entry Showcase of Dreams; in several of Quynn Elizabeth’s videos featured on www.earthtribetv.org; and on the airwaves of KXCI, 91.3 FM, Tucson Community Radio.

James Marshall is a master saxophonist who was a pioneer in the free jazz movement of the early 1970’s, when he co-founded The Human Arts Ensemble, an offshoot of the revolutionary B.A.G. (Black Artist’s Group) of St. Louis. He appears on three Arista albums with the HAE, one of which has become an underground classic.  Since then, he has recorded on well over 100 CDs and has done thousands of public performances, solo and with renowned artists such as Mary Redhouse and Tim Wiedenkeller.

Amir Al-Kais was an active Kemetic priest for twenty years. Since 1996 he has produced music based on the greater mysteries of the Nile Valley Complex, under the parent organization Seventh Dawn Associates kemet@musician.org . His work has been broadcast on radio stations across the country, including WVKO (Columbus, OH) and KXCI FM (Tucson, AZ), as well as televised on Tucson Community Cable Corporation.

Quynn Elizabeth is a shamana of the Earth Tribes, whose internet channel, Earthtribe TV www.earthtribetv.com, school The Institute for the Shamanic Arts (Tucson, AZ)  www.shamanworld.com, and books A Tribe of One and Accepting the Ashes, are making available to the average person the knowledge that we are living in a paradise full of magic, magic which any one of us can utilize at any moment to heal ourselves, each other and the planet we are increasingly causing harm.

Allan Shockley is internationally recognized as a pioneer of the didgeridoo in the western world. He has been instrumental in promoting the sounds of the Northern Sonoran Dreamtime Pipe—the agave didgeridoo, which he helped invent, by crafting over five thousand of them (now spread around the world) and by teaching thousands of students how to play for recreation, ceremonial and healing purposes. He is also an award-winning recording artist, master jeweler, and sweat lodge leader who incorporates into everything he does elements of his Choctaw ancestry.  www.allanshockley.com

GO WILD!
WILDERNESS EMPOWERMENT WEEKEND
(30 miles west of Tucson, AZ)

Are you ready to more fully unplug from the grid of the American Dream”? Is your inner voice calling you to a better path, and you want to hear it more clearly? Come join us for two days and a night off the grid to explore these mysteries. Experience other worlds of awareness thru immersion in our Sonoran desert—the home of power.

This unique workshop will provide an immersion experience into our inner and outer wildernesses. It will combine shamanic journeying and hands-on native skills (such as friction firemaking, identifying useful plants, spirit tracking); it will present the opportunity to discover, strengthen and balance the male and female principles within us all, which permeate the universe as well; it will provide a chance to bridge the best of the modern and ancient worlds and their teachings.
